Has anyone else noticed a huge increase in fungal skin conditions on their guinea pigs? I have found it a real problem the past few weeks. I'm putting it down to all the rain. I use Malaseb every three or four days and use a human healing gel on the sore spots to try and stop them scratching as they heal. Does anyone know of a better (quicker) solution?

Hello Alex
Yes 2 of my own guinea pigs have got fungal. I have been bathing them in Malaseb every 3 days and using an anti human fungal cream every day too but it is very time consuming.
I shaved the area so it is easier to apply the cream..

Thanks Monique. I guess I am hoping for a miracle new product - one dose cures fungus!!!! Of course, if the wet humid weather cleared up it would be a great help!!

signs of a fungal condition • patches/lesions of hair loss • flakey/crusty dry skin often • inflamed and itchy. • Fungal infections can cause the hair around the area to fall out easily. Common areas of infection include the ears, nose and the back end. I have some photos I think will have a look.. Bad case If you think your guinea pigs have fungal i would treat for both mites and fungal because it can sometimes be hard to tell the difference unless you know exactly what you are looking for
